Overview

Heat in Packaging & Consumer

Packaging and consumer goods manufacturing runs on plastic extrusion, injection molding, and heat-sealing — all of which depend on consistent, well-controlled heat. MaxVolt's mica and ceramic band heaters are built for the continuous-duty cycles of packaging lines and food-grade processing equipment.

Packaging and consumer goods lines run fast and continuously. Extruders and moulding machines need stable barrel temperatures, sealing jaws must hit the same temperature on every cycle, and shrink tunnels and dryers need even, efficient heat.

MaxVolt supplies band, cartridge, strip, cast-in and infrared heaters for packaging machinery builders and converters, in standard and custom sizes.

Thermal Challenges

Problems we solve for this industry

Inconsistent seals at high speed

Temperature drift on sealing jaws causes weak or burnt seals and rejected packs.

Our approach: Cartridge and strip heaters matched to the jaw, with the sensor close to the sealing face, hold a steady temperature.

Energy cost of barrel heating

Extruder and moulding barrels lose a lot of heat to the surroundings.

Our approach: Insulated ceramic band heaters cut radiated losses compared with bare bands.

Fast product changeovers

Long heat-up times slow down changeovers between products and films.

Our approach: Heaters are sized for the heat-up time you need, and infrared gives near-instant heat in tunnels.

Hygiene around food products

Heaters near food contact areas must be easy to clean and corrosion-resistant.

Our approach: Stainless-steel sheaths and enclosures can be specified for these areas.

Applications

Applications & recommended heaters

Extrusion and blown film

150–300 °C

Barrel and die heating for film, sheet, pipe and profile extrusion.

Injection and blow moulding

180–300 °C

Barrel, nozzle and hot-runner heating for caps, closures, containers and preforms.

Heat-sealing jaws and bars

120–250 °C

Form-fill-seal, pouch, carton and blister sealing.

Shrink tunnels, drying and thermoforming

Shrink-wrapping, ink and coating drying, and sheet heating for thermoforming.

Hot plates and platens

Even heat for presses, laminating and heat-transfer platens.

FAQs

Packaging & Consumer heating — common questions

Cartridge heaters are the usual choice because they fit into bored jaws and put the heat right where it's needed. For long, flat sealing bars, strip heaters are also used.
