Heat in Leather Industry
Leather and footwear manufacturing uses heat for drying and conditioning hides, heating water for tanning drums, pressing and embossing, finish curing and sole moulding. MaxVolt supplies air, immersion, circulation, cast-in, cartridge and infrared heaters for tanneries and leather-goods makers.
Leather is sensitive to heat: dry it too fast or too hot and it hardens, shrinks or cracks. Tanneries need gentle, even drying, steady water temperatures in the drums and accurate plate temperatures for pressing and embossing.
MaxVolt designs heaters for these steps, with materials suited to the humid, chemical-laden air of a tannery.
Problems we solve for this industry
Gentle, even drying
Hot spots in dryers damage the grain and cause shrinkage.
Our approach: Air heaters sized for low, even air temperatures with good distribution.
Humid, corrosive air
Moisture and tanning chemicals corrode heaters and terminals.
Our approach: Stainless sheaths and sealed terminal enclosures for wet areas.
Uniform pressing plates
Uneven press-plate temperature gives patchy embossing and finish.
Our approach: Cast-in and cartridge heaters arranged for an even plate temperature.
Energy use
Drying and hot water are among a tannery's largest energy costs.
Our approach: Heaters sized for the actual load, with proper control, avoid waste.

Leather Industry heating — common questions
Finned tubular or duct heaters in the air stream give even, moderate air temperatures. Share the dryer size and airflow and the heater will be sized to match.
